Chip Fab Story [.NES]

A semiconductor history built as a Famicom game

Chip Fab Story begins in a 1971 silicon workshop and follows fabrication toward a future of recursively improving factories. The playable program is a real Famicom ROM, presented through a browser wrapper designed for modern screens and touch input.

The opening workshop starts with a small amount of capital, a yield percentage, and an early logic recipe. Machines and workers occupy the floor while production figures, stock, memory, CPU demand, and the next research target remain visible in the 256-by-240 display.

Build the machines that build the next machines

Progress depends on making fabrication decisions, hiring teams, and finding the next breakthrough without exhausting the budget. Each new stage pushes the workshop from hand-managed logic production toward increasingly automated manufacturing.

The simulation is about recursive improvement rather than a single production line. Better capacity supports more research, research opens better fabrication, and every expansion has to survive the cash flow that paid for it.

The wrapper makes old hardware comfortable in a tab

Tap a menu or machine to select it, then tap the selected target again to act. The wrapper also offers a conventional D-pad and A/B layout, sound and fullscreen controls, and a field guide beside the game.

Speed settings change the emulated processor clock rather than merely skipping animations. Input and audio are throttled to remain usable at faster settings, and save options preserve a run in the browser. The downloadable ROM can also be used in a Famicom or NES emulator or on compatible hardware.

Guide

Launch
Choose Start your fab to enter the live NES simulation
Select
Tap a menu or machine once to select it, then tap it again to act
Build
Craft logic lots, hire staff, and invest ideas in the next fabrication breakthrough
Speed
Use the wrapper's 1x, 2x, and 4x controls to change the emulated processor speed
Save
Open the save control in the browser wrapper to preserve or restore the run

Creator's description

Starting the fab opened the 1971 silicon workshop with $96, a 67% yield, and the first logic recipe selected. The live 256-by-240 ROM display ran inside a wrapper that exposes sound, fullscreen, speed, control, and save options.
